CNN’s Tapper Grills Adam Schiff About False ‘Trump-Russia’ Claims
In an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Senator-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA) was asked by Jake Tapper if the Russia investigations during Trump’s presidency, including the Mueller probe, contributed to the rise of “disrupters” in Washington. Tapper highlighted Trump’s controversial Cabinet picks and questioned whether past allegations of collusion, including those led by Schiff, had paved the way for this political shift.
Schiff defended his claims of Trump-Russia collusion, citing examples like the sharing of polling data with Russian intelligence. Tapper countered with Mueller’s conclusion that there was no proof of conspiracy or coordination, emphasizing the lack of definitive evidence.
Schiff acknowledged Democrats’ failure to convince voters they had better solutions to economic issues, stating, “We’re going to have to figure that out.” He deflected criticism of the investigations, reiterating his belief in evidence of collusion despite its disputed origins, such as the discredited Steele dossier. The dossier’s credibility was further undermined in 2021 when Russian analyst Igor Danchenko, a key source, was accused of lying to the FBI by Special Counsel John Durham.
