Walmart Reveals Plans to Close These Stores in 2024!
Walmart is slated to shut down two additional stores in California and one in Maryland, bringing the total number of confirmed closures this year to six. Earlier announcements indicated intentions to open or begin construction on 14 new locations throughout the year. These closures follow one in Ohio and two in the San Diego metropolitan area, which were determined to have underperformed financially.
“We value the support of our customers at our San Diego and El Cajon stores,” said Walmart spokesperson Brian Little. “We remain dedicated to serving them at any of our numerous locations in the area, online at Walmart.com, and through convenient home or business delivery services.”
Affected employees are given the option to transfer to other locations, with Walmart affirming the continued operation of over a dozen stores and warehouse clubs in each respective market.
As of October last year, Walmart boasted more than 4,600 retail locations in the US, including 3,548 supercenters, 356 discount stores, and approximately 700 neighborhood markets and smaller format stores. Additionally, the company maintains around 600 Sam’s Club warehouses.
In January, Walmart revealed plans to construct or renovate over 150 stores within the next five years, with renovations planned for 650 locations this year alone.
