Texas Flood: Young Counselor Helps Save Lives At Camp Mystic

Devastating floods in Texas have claimed at least 81 lives across six counties. One of the hardest-hit areas was Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp near Kerrville, where 27 campers and counselors died, and several others remain missing.

Despite the tragedy, stories of heroism have emerged. Emma Foltz, a senior at Louisiana Tech and a longtime counselor at Camp Mystic, is being praised for saving 14 campers during the flash flood. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry called her bravery “instrumental” and thanked her publicly.

Camp Mystic shared a heartfelt statement expressing grief and requesting continued prayers and privacy for affected families. Survivors described the floodwaters as rising with terrifying speed, leaving little time to escape.

As rescue efforts continue, the community is mourning but united, drawing strength from the courage of people like Emma Foltz—hailed by many as a hero.
