“The View” Scrambles to Find New Co-Hosts as Ratings Tumble
Following the presidential election, ratings across the mainstream media have tumbled significantly, ostensibly demonstrating that many Americans have rejected the takes of legacy media pundits after they were so wrong in their forecasts and rhetoric. Reportedly, ABC’s “The View” has not been spared from this correction in ratings, leaving the show scrambling to find a lineup of new co-hosts.
A recent report from the New York Post claimed that top leadership at ABC is reevaluating “The View”‘s strategy, which has become a mostly one-sided liberal panel of co-hosts in recent years that have incessantly pushed anti-Trump rhetoric. However, an inside source recently claimed ABC has descended into “panic mode” as the network seeks to add a more conservative balance to “The View” amid its branding of liberal bias.
“The View is facing pressure from higher-ups,” the source said. “Viewers can expect some major changes, including bringing in new panelists that can bring in a pro-Trump perspective.” The source added, “Everyone on ‘The View’ endorsed Kamala Harris. They lost. They are out of touch with America. For a show about different perspectives, ‘The View’ doesn’t seem to have any when it comes to Trump. ABC bosses don’t want to alienate the pro-Trump demographic.”
Some commentators have suggested that American viewers will not be able to trust the media to cover the Trump administration fairly after many lost their trust in legacy networks after the election. Further describing the strategic discussion at ABC, the source said, “We are trying to sort out how we cover the next 4 years when everyone inside ABC News is on one side.”
“The View is an opinion-based show featuring a diverse panel of women with different points of view—the current panel is clearly resonating with audiences given that the series just had its highest rated episode in more than a decade and hit a 4-year high in total viewers,” according to a statement from an ABC spokesperson to The Post.
The American Tribune recently reported on the backlash from “The View” toward Trump’s cabinet picks, where the panel slammed Pete Hegseth, who was chosen for Defense Secretary. Whoopi Goldberg said, “Trump picked “the cohost of ‘Fox & Friends: Weekend’… not even, like, regular.” she continued, “So is this the guy who is qualified to make decisions about the most powerful military in the world, who clearly does not know anything about the military?” Joy Behar then said, “I’m a morning TV host, and I’ve been here the longest. Where’s my ambassadorship to Italy?”
Co-host Sarah Haines then said, “Beyond what he’s saying just about women. The scary part is the Secretary of Defense is the highest-ranking member of the federal cabinet, and there’s a budget of $841 billion; it’s the largest government agency. It operates 4100 sites in over 160 countries. And as someone who, right now, we stand here with a country that has a lot of turmoil in the Middle East, in Russia and Ukraine, even in Asia, with China, it makes me more than a little worried.”
She added, “You’re picking someone who has served for five or six years; he was middle, mid-ranking; he never has worked in the government. And you can say the government’s bureaucratic and get an outside person that’s going to clean it up, but it hasn’t been cleaned up yet. And therefore you have to understand the place you’re going into to operate it at its most efficient capacity.”
